What is Minus the Beats?

Minus the Beats was inspired by a group called Minus the Bear.  I listen to them often and enjoy everything that they put out.  When listening to their new song Into the Mirror I got an idea to write out the songs as a short story.  Much like the music videos that are made for them.  After listening to the entire Planet of Ice album 4 times through I found myself creating small characters and stories to go along with them.  I starting writing down small ideas for each one and wanted to keep the name simple.  I figured its a narrative based on a song, so Minus the Bear does the song, but there are no instruments so Minus the Beats seemed to fit pretty well.

Why am I doing it?

Quite simply, I love to write and I love music. Lyrics are very often under estimated or are overestimated.  I find that is a lot of meaning in songs and vice versa. A lot of groups claim to have a huge message behind what they do, but for the most part is only as deep as the puddle outside. I am not doing this to be redundant.  I am doing this to offer another medium for these songs/stories to be enjoyed.  I am taking what these guys have so astutely left so vague and detailing where I see fit.  They are purely what I believe they should mean or what I interpreted them as.  It is a challenge to myself to read between the lines of an already near perfect product.

My goal is ultimately make this site more interactive for people as I see that more and more people are reading.  Speaking of reading…Since I have been mia from writing because of the re-design I will now be pumping out a few more good pieces.

For those who are awaiting Chapter 3 of the “Untitled Project” will surely be up within the next week.  I have been finalizing all the little details of the chapter and fine tuning it so that I can keep it as interesting as possible.

Swallowed Day: Part 3 will also be released again soon.  If you haven’t read the other than I suggest you do.  They are definitely one of my more intriguing series.  The re-release of Part 3 will include some editing and slight variations in case you had the pleasure of me throwing it your face on some other occasion.
