It was one of those clear days. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. There wasn’t a soul to be seen, just me. I couldn’t even feel the breeze on my back. The water was glowing aqua and the top shimmered with rays of sunshine bouncing off the endless angles of the ripples. The sand in my toes was hot, but comfortable, and a pure white like it had yet to be mixed with any other substance on Earth.

I looked back up the beach. My chair sits alone among a blue striped towel and my sandals. The tall green grass behind my chair sways in the gentle breeze, back and forth, back and forth. A smile comes over my face and I turn back towards the water. I inch closer and closer to big blue. I stand still for a moment and take in the warm rays of sun light and the endless beauty that has been offered to me.

The water washes up over my feet. Slowly crossing every follicle of hair, wrapping around my heal and finally drowning my epidermis in a few inches of water. I started to feel the sand pulled from underneath me. Each pebble of sand being forced back into the ocean as if it wanted to pull me along with it. Again a small wave splashed up and over my foot, this time splashing up my leg. Ankle deep in water I watch the swirls of foam and sand retract into the ocean once more. I could see my foot sink into the soaked Earth.

I just imagined for a second a constant battle of good and evil in an uncontrollable rage. The water ripping through the rocks and bits of sand, underneath my feet returning things to the natural order. Only to repeat itself over and over again. To renew what was. My feet now lay beneath an inch of beach that could very well have come from the ocean floor 20 miles away.

I stepped out of the water and retreated to my chair and sat looking again across the vast ocean. Still, there was not a soul in sight. I needed nothing else. Today I start anew.

The sun has sets on another day and as I sat on the back porch, alone, I saw the whole world come together. Birds gathered in the skies in their own V formation. Squirrels chased each other across multiple trees. The world had come together while I awaited another night of seclusion. I can only compare this experience to everything I have seen in the movies and, for once, they all made sense. I watched the sun dip behind the large maple trees in the distance and drew in a deep breath. I couldn’t possibly be mad at the world. The world was at peace with itself, so was I.
