Remember the times when responsibility didn’t exist? Remember the times when you fell running and got a fat lip? Remember when appreciation didn’t matter? And everything around us was just a bunch of clatter? Remember the times that you pouted and ran to your room? Or the times that you weren’t as tall as mommy’s broom. Your sheets were filled with Disney characters, planets, stars, and the moon. I use to find pleasure in skipping rocks over water, but hated them time-outs spent in the corner. Sooner than later, I got a little older, and started to realize that my nights got a little colder. My emotions would multiply and my eyes, for the first time, would cry. Older now and much more wise, I want a better life for myself before I die. Health and prosperity are now on my wish list, along with that, eternal bliss. I haven’t given much thought to peace among all, but I wouldn’t mind seeing us all get along. Do you think this could happen before my blood comes? I don’t want them to hate, it’s healthier to love. Today, we have the ability to learn of our History, so keep flippin’ pages until your fingers start blistering. I appreciate all the people who have paved the way but my greatest appreciation came with diversity in November of 2008.

We had just recently moved into our new house a couple of town over from Bethlehem. Two weeks of school had gone by and I was really excited to be in a new school. I was at the Intermediate School now, which is just a fancy way of saying Middle School. I had always been a fan of a change in scenery. It was also a little overwhelming. Being the “new kid” is never easy. I was a nerd so I was an easy target to get picked on and my quick wit had yet to develop into anything, but a small fetus, at this point. I’m not sure I could tell you exactly what I was doing this day. I remember coming home from school this day and opening up my closet and grabbing the thick sharpie marcher. Remember the one that had a 1.5″ tip on it? It was my favorite.

The closet that I had had been used by the previous occupants daughter. She had spent her childhood in my room and had written memories she had on the wall behind all her clothes. I remember being fascinated by this mural names and events. So I took the sharpie and immortalized myself along with Timmy and Jenn’s first kiss. Being only about 9 years old I knew little on the subject of romance. Only what I saw in the movies. I wanted to be a part of the history of this house. People will one day open that closet and write their name alongside mine and the countless others and join this history of the home I grew up in.
