2010: Day 10
Sun, Jan 10, 2010
Finally we have reached double digits! That was like the first time you “became an adult.” Today felt much like that. It was a great end to this week and I’m ready to start fresh on Monday tomorrow, but I shouldn’t get ahead of myself.
I had an epiphany today. Remember those little medival vacuum looking things that you’d see in Chinese buffets and doctors offices and even schools? I know I’m being pretty vague so far, but these contraptions were/are brooms 2.0. For those of us or are too lazy to bend our fat asses over with a dust pan these mechanical square with wheels were equipped with a singular cylindrical brush the spun as your pushed it along your carpet. Pretty efficient am I right? That may be okay for some of you, but I need an explanation as to 1) where the hell do those crumbs, dirt and dander even end up? The contraption is 1.5 inches thick for crying out loud. And 2) who on Earth approved this item to be used in these supposed hyper clean environments (ie restaurants, doctors offices)? I spent the good portion of my morning discussing this with everyone. No one could offer an explaination. Things still haven’t improved, because now society has given birth to the Swiffer, which is equally as useless and twice as expensive. Unfortunately, the joke is on me, I’m one of the assholees who bought the damn thing.
I was going to find a picture to put on here, but 1) don’t know the name of the damn thing, and 2) Google couldn’t even come up with results that even vaguely resembled the product i was referring to when I typed in square hotel sweeper.
I also took note of the extremely long hours I have been working. No, no this isn’t an invitation to my pity party. Quite the contrary actually, I have noticed that with these consecutive, 12, 12.5 and 11 hour days, I have learned to harness so much more of the day and truly get work done. Appreciating the hardwork that you have completed is also a good feeling, as is sharing that experience with others. I can’t say that I have ever enjoyed working this much with this much intensity before.
The climax of my day came when an unexpected guest made a re-appearance in my life. All I will say on the subject is that today was a great day to end with and ultimately begin with. Sometimes it’s healthy to forgive and forget some of the horrible things that have happened. I don’t like leaving people on bad terms and there are few in this world who leave such a poor taste in my mouth that I wish them any harm.
I have found much humor in this world today as well. With the discovery of “Shit My Dad Says” and an extremely funny picture found on one of my friends Facebook* pages. I would share it, but its a bit racy.Humor in general seemed to be a pretty big theme. I shared a few good laughs and virtual laughs with some really good friends. Makes a guy feel pretty good.
sidenote: thrustmobile.
Footnote: *Facebook is a proper noun. When the fuck did this happen and why? I need Miriam-Webster on the phone now.
